Learning and Teaching

Vision for Learning and Teaching

At Christ the King Catholic Primary School, we are guided by The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (2019).

The declaration notes two goals.

  1. That Australian Education System promotes equity and excellence
  2. All young Australians become:
    • confident and creative individuals
    • successful lifelong learners
    • active and informed members of the community.

The Brisbane Catholic Education Vision for Learning and Teaching Framework aligns with these goals and states the following:

“As a Catholic Christian community, we educate all to live the gospel of Jesus Christ as successful, creative and confident, active and informed learners empowered to shape and enrich our world."

The Christ the King Vision for Learning and Teaching is directly linked to these goals and is embedded in the schools Mission, Motto, and Values for Learning. Learning at Christ the King is underpinned by our beliefs that all learners can be successful, educating the whole student in community and holding high expectations for teachers and learners.

At Christ The King we believe in focusing on the whole person, a whole person created in the image and likeness of God. A whole person who brings to their education a diverse background, skills, talents and mindsets.

Brave - Our teachers have high expectations of our learners. Our learners are encouraged to be brave; to participate; to articulate their learning goals and understand where they are in their learning and where they are heading. They receive feedback and can give feedback about theirs and others learning. Students are resilient in the classrooms and in the playground.

Empowered - Our learners are successful, creative and confident, active and informed and empowered to shape and enrich our world. Our teachers use formative strategies and assessments with transparent monitoring of progress in learning and in behaviour. Teachers are empowered by being data-driven and understanding the impact of teaching and learning in the classroom.

Spirited - We educate the whole person in the community: created in the image and likeness of God who develops spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, morally and cognitively. Our learners are filled with the Spirit of God; in making decisions, friendships and modelling appropriate behaviour and values to all in our wider community.

We believe that we are all in this together.
